Vagator Beach Goa

Vagator Beach Goa

Most beach destinations boast of perfect sandy beaches, good waters, great food comfortable living spaces and not to heavy on the pockets. Some beaches don’t live up to this and some do, Vagator beach in Goa belongs to the one that do. Vagator beach is located to the north of Goa, 22kms away from the capital Panjim, near to the more famous and crowded Anjuna beach.Vagator has it all, emerald green waters that changes colors, pure white sands, with black rocks scattered all across the beach. Not to mention the usually picturesque palms and the real life fishing village bordering the shores. History has left its marks and at Vagator it is obvious in the 500 year old Portuguese built fort. A trek to the fort is a very much done thing, in return you get to have some of the best views that one could ask for. The old black walls look down on small fishing villages, breaking through the thousands of coconut trees that dot the entire area.

Not very far from the sea front are two fresh water springs. The hinterland is worth the exploration but not without a personal vehicle, preferably a four wheel drive to handle the rough roads.

Vagator also offers some of the best local cuisine at a reasonable rate. It also holds some great parties come winter, a big craze with lovers of trance and psychedelic music dished out by some of the best DJ’s imported from Europe and available locally.

Vagator has yet to be discovered in a big way, thus you can easily find room for you to enjoy the gifts of nature without being jostled by the crowds. Come season time and all the limited resources like shacks and resorts which are very few in no will be occupied to the hilt.

Calangute beach

Calangute beach

In the initial days of my visit to Goa, little did I know about the Queen of beaches, Calangute. I was wondering what is it that makes others admire the beach by this name. It didn’t take much time and the doubt was vanished as such when I reached the place. The beach gave a warm welcome with the sun kissed sands and pampered palm trees. The name of the land means the land of fishermen, my guide explained. There are some other opinions also which all reveals that this beach is well known for art and coconut trees. I noticed that the beach is dotted with coconut trees which made me arrive at a conclusion that even if the name is connected to it, there is nothing wrong in it.

This beach was a heaven when I found that the sand and the surf were awesome for a sea lover like me. I enjoyed the beach in a lazy mood. The cool breeze was so enjoyable and it was driving me to sleep at times. So after a short while of rest on the beach, I changed up my mind to go for a bath in the sea.

As I noticed the Calangute beach, I could see that the total feel was like that of a carnival. the beach had a wonderful presence of people who have come to make their holiday colorful and I  got chances to mingle with people of varying culture which I always love do during my world trips. I later moved to the stalls to find out if there was something that can catch my attention.

Now I am a little confused on what all to buy, because there were the mouth watering snacks on one side with trinkets made of sea shell on the other side. The charm and beauty attracted me making me feel that this will give a memorable experience in the future for sure.

To nature lovers all over the world and India, those who have a particular interest in turtles, the Olive Ridley turtle, then Morjim is a name that will be known. Every year Morjim sees the advent of the turtles who travel thousands of miles, to the place they were born where the female lays close to 140 eggs in dugouts in the sands. But for the last few years the no are dwindling, earlier it was the locals who poached the eggs to sell or eat. Now it is the tourists who are causing the damage. Since the late nineties efforts are being made to protect these gentle amphibians and the natives of Morjim are doing their bit to help in the conservation efforts.

Morjim is considered one of the quieter beaches in Goa, positioned between the Arabian Sea and the Chapora River, ensuring that bounty of fresh catch to wash down with coconut water, the gift of the thousand of coconut trees that line on the shore. The shore line is hedged by the hills which are wild with all kinds of flora and fauna, who have found an idyllic home in Morjim.

Morjim is steeped in many of the traditions which seem to be on the decline everywhere else in Goa. The folk dances still have a home in the hearts of the natives of Morjim and Feni – the local drink made from cashew nuts is made and stored in a big way all across Morjim.

The story goes that the local Deity Goddess Bhagwati who sprang from the sea was fished out by the Morjes meaning fishermen in the local dialect, thus the name Morjim. There’s another story believes that the goddess came riding on a peacock, thus the local name for the bird Mhor, thus the bird can be found in abundance in the hills surrounding Morjim.

Arambol Beach – Shimmering Water

WE were preparing to depart from our friends place in Margoa, where we had spent most of our week .The rest of the gang, the ones who had come by train had left earlier in the day by train. We were the bikers, so we chose to stay and leave late in the night to our next stop, Arambol which is very close to the Goa-Maharastra border. It also happens to be the native place of a friend and on our earlier trip to Goa we had decided that the next time we will travel through Arambol on our way back home to Pune.

So around 5.30 in the evening we bid farewell to our hosts within 10 minutes we were on the highway out of margoa on our way to Arambol. On the way we stopped at Panjim to have a look around, pick up a few t-shirts and we were back on the road.

The road to Arambol is pretty narrow and winding, even more so than Margoa and Panjim. The ride was fun as we liked it that way and half way out of Panjim and we were in the mountains with the sea accompanying us on the left. The journey to Arambol is in the northern direction and as Arambol is located by the sea, unlike Panjim so we were staring at one more of the memorable sunsets of Goa.

Time stands still, as the shimmering waters reflect the final glory of the now red, now maroon sun till it finally vanishes out into the sea.

We came out of our spell, a tad bit slowly; kind of reluctance had come over us. The thought of finding a place to stay and get ourselves a taste of the local feni ensured that we moved on and landed in Arambol before the final lights faded off.

Sinquerim Beach – Its Different

When I noticed the Aguada fort across the river, I got an interest to see it from near. This took me to the famous and old beach of Goa called the Sinquerim beach. As heard from many co-visitors, I noticed that this is old, yet well preserved. The fort built by Portuguese was near by the beach and both of them have the same age.

We enjoyed the tranquil stretch of sun kissed sands of the beach as we went for an evening walk. When I saw someone swimming there, I immediately got the intension to enjoy a swimming. And this is the ideal place to have a swim and the sea is particularly calm here. No wonder why this has become a favorite haunt for the swimmers. I enjoyed the chill climate as we explored the beach in a walk. The lazy day was awesome for both of us spending on the beach and at the end of the day; we realized we have spend it worthily. The place is ideal for a vacation with family and we have experienced the difference.

In the middle of a busy vacation schedule in Goa, we managed to have a peaceful setting in the Sinquerim beach. We walked till we reached the Aguada beach. We walked to the fort which was a major attraction that tourists make visit to during their journey to Goa. The golden sands were shining and the sapphire waters were adding beauty to it. The beautiful scenery spread along the beach made us feel fresh even after a lengthy walk on the sea shore.

At night we decided to make something different on the shore of Sinquerim beach. The nightlife was awesome and we had a complete entertainment enjoying and dancing in the candlelight. The resort provided everything we wanted and this made us entire Goan trip pleasure filled.
