When Afonso de Albuquerque first conquered Goa from Muslim rule, he built this Chapel of St Catherine. The existence of this Chapel is said to be from 1510 AD. However it was rebuilt in 1552 AD. The chapel was made on the gates of the city that was under the Muslim rule.  It is made of laterite plaster with lime mortar. The chapel has two towers on either side. The most important aspect of this church is that Afonso de Albuquerque made it on the entrance of the city gate where they entered from after defeating the Mohammedans.
