The church is situated in old Goa, about 9 km away from the capital city Panjim. The present church came into existence in 1661. However before this there was another church consecrated to holy ghosts in 1521. In 1964 the doors of the church were opened as a museum. The ceiling at the entrance of the church has been given a touch of classic Indian architecture. As for the exteriors they are given a Tuscan style. The structure is made from laterite; also lime plaster is used. The interiors of the church look similar to that in the bible. The wooden statue of St. Francis of Assisi is placed in one of its chapels.
