Goa Cities
Tourism in India owes great to Goa. An important feature which helps Goa to stand different from other parts of India is that, this is probably the only state in India with each corner important to tourists. All towns and cities have something unique about it which draws attention from tourists. This is quite surprising for a small state like Goa, yet this is a reality.
Goa, smaller in size with great scenic beauty and cultural history, is located on the west coast of India.
The important cities of Goa are as follows:
Canacona - This city is considered to be ceded to the Portuguese by a king named the Raja of Sund. This is one of the last parts to be given into the Novas Conquistas. The main attraction of this city is the Hindu feel which is retained despite of the Christianity found in other major parts of Goa.
This city has its outstanding scenery which can be boasted. This is set against the Sahyadri Hills and adds to the natural attraction of Goa. The sweeping beaches with sand kissed shores on the coastline are a reason why tourist is brought to Goa.
Mapusa - This market town of Goa is a headquarter city. Various beautiful attractions of Mapusa include the Friday market where you can see the whole of Goa. Colors of Goan culture arrive in this town for trade and of course remind us of the Portuguese trade culture. This is reachable from Mumbai and hence tourists can get down here to go to the coast to stay in Goan resorts.
Margao - This is considered to be the second largest town of Goa. Hence this is the bustling trade and commercial center on the West coast of India. Frequent tourist visits to this city is mainly attributed to the old-worldly charm brought by the Portuguese churches and various country houses in Goa.
The country houses are decorated by dark rosewood furniture to add to the elegancy. This city has farmlands surrounding it which resulted in developing the town as a major agricultural market in Goa. This also gained importance as the religious centre when wealthy temples and Dharamshalas filled it.
Panjim - This state capital of Goa is a distinct character influenced by the culture and tradition of Goa. A great reason for the beauty of Panaji is its location on the southern banks of Mandovi River.
Panaji can be considered to be a prominent center with churches surrounding the town which makes this city a typical Goan town.
Ponda - This is considered to be the Hindu center of Goa. Since Goa is full of Christian memories, this place has a unique position in the history and culture of Goa. The major attractions include temples situated surrounding the town and a large mosque adding beauty to it. This city can also be connected to other important cities which increases the popularity of Ponda.
Vasco-da-Gama - This beautiful city over looking the Suari River is a major attraction of Goan tourists. This is one of the busiest port cities of India.
Each city of Goa has its own peculiarities which add to the total beauty of the state of Goa. The religious importance and trading attractions always increase the flow of tourists to the state. Goan cities are flourished as tourist centers with the help of beaches and rivers which cannot be discarded from the map of Goa.
