Palolem Beach – Get Ready, Here I Come

I traveled from Mumbai to Goa by the Goa Express which runs down the west coast of India. As I traveled, I sat back in my seat enjoying the beautiful view of the coast passing by me, at times, overlooking the Arabian Sea. I was looking forward to being in Goa for the first time—to beautiful beaches, laying in the sun sipping coconut water, visiting some of the old historical places that make Goa a totally unique place in India.
Friends of mine who had visited Goa several times told me to go to Palolem Beach, one of the best beaches in Goa—so I was told, often called Paradise Beach. So with high expectations, I took a bus from Margaon to Palolem Beach. As soon as I saw the beach, the first thing I noticed is the stretch of white sand that dominates the beach, the blueness of the waters. A sense of serenity overtook me. There were other tourists there but I felt comfortably secluded, and yet comfortably secure in this demographic!
There were several accommodations available—guesthouses, simple rooms; even the locals will accommodate you! But I love the outdoors, so I rented a tent. I went to sleep that night listening to the waves of the Sea amidst the calm of the night. It was wonderful. The day came but I was in no hurry to explore, just yet! I laid on the beach, absorbing the beauty of this scenic place. Here I blended with the sun and sand, and the rhythmic lull of the beach. Heavenly!! I could live here forever!
The next day I was ready to do a bit of exploration. The beach is about a mile long. At the northern end of the beach was a fresh water stream and across this stream was a tiny island, easy enough for me to swim to.
