The church is situated in the north Goa. It came first into existence in 1555 AD. It is noted as one of the oldest Churches of Goa. Franciscan Friars founded this holy place; however the monument is dedicated to the three Magi-Kings. It is the first Church in the taluka of Bardez. To the right of the altar in the Church lies the grave of Viceroy Dom Luis da Alameida. Also, there is a Shrine near the stairs that is dedicated to Our Lady of Hope. The Reis Magos fort is neighboring the church; the Church is close to the Mandovi River.
